The Scholars Program @ BC3

The BC3 Scholars Program gives students an opportunity to accept academic challenges outside the classroom. This opportunity also provides Scholar students with a chance to work privately with their instructors.

Program Eligibility Criteria

  • Letter of Recommendation from high school teacher or guidance counselor (prescribed format letter).
  • To remain in the program a minimum GPA of 3.25 must be maintained.
  • To graduate with a scholar designation, a student must have at least a 3.25 GPA to correspond with graduation honors and a minimum of 12 scholar credits in course work.
  • Scholar graduates must complete a portfolio that includes artifacts and evidence of scholarly course work based on specified committee guidelines.
  • Scholar graduates must deliver an oral presentation to the college scholar committee based on specified guidelines.
  • For an entering BC3 student:
  • Greater than 3.5 Non-weighted GPA and one of the following:
    • 1200 on SAT using Critical Thinking and Math only OR no preparatory course work in mathematics.
    • No preparatory coursework in writing or reading.
  • For a current BC3 student:
    • With at least 12 college-level credits, a 3.75 GPA.
    • With at least 24 credits, a 3.5 GPA.
    • A letter of recommendation from a college professor or instructor (prescribed format letter).
  • For a student transferring in from another college or university:
    • The requirements would be the same as for the current college student.










Scholar Course Work Will...

  • consist of a separate project, special assignment, or practicum etc. that a student can complete alongside regular coursework.
  • not be calculated into the overall grade for the course.
  • integrate into a scholar portfolio for review by college scholar committee members.
  • include a one-page reflective essay regarding the scholar course experience.
  • require higher order thinking skills.
