Financial Aid - Veterans Benefits

The information provided on this site is intended to assist students in utilizing available veterans benefits for their time at BC3.

Veterans are encouraged to contact the Department of Veterans Affairs for the most current information especially with questions regarding payment.  The phone number for the Department of Veterans Affairs is  1.888.442.4551.


Veteran Course Scheduling Preference

In an effort to assist students to earn a postsecondary education, Act 46 of 2014, Higher Education Course Scheduling Preference for Veteran Students in Pennsylvania was signed into law in 2014.
Veteran Student Priority Registration process for FALL 2015, for currently enrolled BC3 veteran students, begins March 30, 2015 through April 10, 2015. This gives you the opportunity to register one week prior to other currently enrolled BC3 students. Do not pass up this benefit of registering early for your fall 2015 classes.

Steps to follow for Priority Registration for FALL 2015:

  1. 1. See your faculty advisor during the week of March 30, 2015 through April 10, 2015. Your faculty advisor must sign your registration form.
    • If you are not sure who your faculty advisor is log on to MyBC3, Web Advisor, Academic Profile, My Profile to find their name.
    • You may also stop by the Academic Center for Enrichment (ACE) in the Student Success Center to make an appointment to meet with an Academic Counselor.
    • Students at off campus sites may see any of the site staff for advising.
  2. Take the signed registration form to the Records and Registration Office, in the Student Success Center, or any BC3 campus location to validate your eligibility for priority registration.
    • A veteran student may be required to provide proof of their military service by either providing their DD214, military orders, military ID, etc.
    • If utilizing GI Bill benefits many may have already submitted the supporting documentation.


All signed and validated fall 2015 registration forms must be received by the Records and Registration Office no later than, Friday, April 10, 2015, for priority registration processing.



Act 46 of 2014 requires public institutions of higher education in Pennsylvania to establish and provide veteran students with preference in course scheduling.

Noncompliance may be reported to the Pennsylvania Department of Education by submitting the Higher Education Student Complaint Form here.

Effective spring 2015, Butler County Community College currently enrolled veteran students will be given course scheduling priority registration privileges. Veteran students will be notified of their registration date and process through their BC3 email each semester.

Veteran students are defined as those students in the following categories:

  1. Is a veteran.
  2. The student has served in the United States Armed Forces including a reserve component or National Guard and was discharged or released from such service under conditions other than dishonorable.
  3. The student has been admitted to a public institution of higher education.
  4. The student resides in Pennsylvania while enrolled in the public institution of higher education.


A veteran student may be required to provide proof of their military services by either providing their DD214, military ID, discharge paperwork, military orders, etc.; if utilizing GI Bill benefits many may have submitted supporting documentation.

Course Scheduling Preference

Veteran students who are given course scheduling priority registration privileges will be registered one week earlier than our current students in non-specialized programs. If a veteran student has a financial obligation to the college, the student must pay the outstanding balance before registering for the semester. Veteran students are identified in our student information system and are notified of the registration procedures two weeks prior to registration.

Information concerning this will be available on the college website, college catalog and the Veteran Services Office.

The Veterans Coordinator, located in the Financial Aid Office at Butler County Community College, handles all paperwork for individuals applying for Department of Veterans Affairs (DVA) educational benefits. 

Counseling and information regarding financial aid, credit for military service, and tutorial assistance is also available.  This office is also your link to the DVA in cases of problems with educational benefit processing.
