The Welding Program provides students with the right blend of theoretical knowledge and practical, hands-on application necessary to adjoin similar and dissimilar metals and perform a variety of other welding associated tasks. Students in the program will attempt a minimum of two American Welding Society (AWS) certifications: SMAW 1" Plate 3G/4G Combo (D1.1) and SMAW API Vertical Down Pipe 6G (API 1104). Students will also attempt certification in Sense Level II Credentials.
Classes in this 600 hour program include: Occupational Orientation and Safety, Principles of Welding, Welding Print Reading, Visual Examination, Inspection and Testing; Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW I), Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW II), Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW), Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW), Flux-Cored Arc Welding (FCAW) and Pipe Welding (GTAW), Thermal Cutting Process, and Brazing and Soldering.
The tools and safety equipment (welder's kit @ $475) include personal protective equipment, essential tools and tool bag. All items on the student personal protective equipment (PPE) and tool list are mandatory for enrollment. Students may elect to purchase all, or none, of the items through BC3. All items bought outside of BC3 will be subject to inspection to determine if they meet the minimum standards required for use in this course.
Classes are held three to four days a week (Monday through Thursday) from 5 pm to 9 pm at Butler County Area Vocational Technical School beginning September 9, 2015 through May 16, 2016.
