(Brockway, PA) Butler County Community College will expand to BC3 @ Brockway this winter an eight-week certificate program that provides supervisors with essential tools to successfully step into and excel in leadership roles, a college administrator said.
The college’s Leadership and Supervision program “covers a lot of the different topics that they will need to be successful,” said Kathy Strobel, coordinator of business training in BC3’s Workforce Development division.
“It could be learning about human behavior and why people think and act the way they do, how people with different personalities interact, how to manage conflict should it arise and how to motivate and appreciate their employees.”
The Workforce Development program, which has also been offered at BC3’s additional locations in Butler County and in Lawrence County, will be instructed at BC3 @ Brockway by Chris Adamson. The St. Marys resident has worked for more than two decades as a human resources director or manager and in 2019 founded The Adamson Group, a human resources consulting firm.
Participants can select individual courses or attend all eight to receive a certificate of completion from BC3, whose program is recognized by the Society for Human Resource Management.
BC3’s Leadership and Supervision program will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on consecutive Mondays between Feb. 16 and April 6 at BC3 @ Brockway, 1200 Wood St., Brockway.
Course topics are human behavior and interpersonal skills; skills of supervision; managing time and stress, problem-solving, decision-making and creativity; motivating employees; the supervisor as a leader; managing conflict and change; and ethics, and appraising and rewarding performance.
“You’re potentially going to have individuals participating from small companies to large manufacturers, and they all have their own experiences that everyone can learn and grow from,” Strobel said. “Chris Adamson facilitates a class where there is a lot of open dialogue, discussion and participation. So individuals will learn from him as well as from one another.”
The cost for individual courses is $85 and for all courses, $680. Employers may be eligible for reimbursement for BC3’s training for their employees through the state Department of Community and Economic Development’s WEDnetPA.
Registration is under way at bc3.edu/business-training.
