(Chautauqua, N.Y.) Mitchell Covert and Taylor Voloch on Friday ended their careers as Butler County Community College golfers by finishing the 2026 National Junior College Athletic Association Division III championship tournaments with scores lower than they posted in 2025.

Covert shot a four-round 335 in 2026 after a 340 at Chautauqua Golf Club’s Lake Course in Chautauqua, N.Y. Voloch had a 441 in 2026 after a 474 in 2025.

In their first national championship tournaments, BC3 men’s golfer Mason Phillips had a 353 in 2026 and women’s golfer Lean McClellan a 487.

Covert, a graduate of Lincoln High School in Ellwood City, was medalist three times and led the Pioneers with the lowest scores three times during his career at BC3. Covert is a two-time WPCC all-conference, WPCC all-tournament and NJCAA Division III All-Region 20 selection.

Voloch, a graduate of Moniteau High, was became the college’s first female All-American in golf at the 2025 national championship by finishing in the Top 18. She was medalist once and co-medalist once during her BC3 career.

Voloch in July was also named to the 2024-2025 NJCAA All-Academic first team and Covert, to the third team.

Phillips was selected to his first WPCC all-tournament team in the fall and to his first NJCAA Division III All-Region 20 this spring.

Sebastian Haug, of Sandhills Community College, Pinehurst, N.C., was the 2026 national championship tournament men’s medalist and Amelia Dunseth, Rock Valley College, Rockford, Ill., the women’s medalist.

Haug with a 284 was the only player to finish under par in the men’s and women’s national championship tournaments. He ended at 4-under and a four-stroke victory over Nam Nam Nai, Oxford College of Emory University, Oxford, Ga.

Dunseth with a 309 won by six strokes against Sarah Wang, Oxford College of Emory University, Oxford, Ga.

Sandhills Community College won its sixth consecutive men’s team title with an 1,156 and by 42 strokes over Delta College, University Center, Mich.

The College of DuPage, Glen Ellyn, Ill., was the women’s team champion with a 1,420 and by 36 shots over Rock Valley College.

Covert in 2025 competed as a member of a BC3 men’s squad that advanced by winning the NJCAA Division III Region 20 tournament and Voloch, in her first open women’s field. 

Covert and Phillips earned berths in the 2026 national championship during the NJCAA Division III Region 20 tournament. McClellan joined Voloch in the open women’s field.

Phillips is a graduate of Knoch and McClellan, of Butler.

The Pioneers’ spring golf season features regional play, a regional tournament and the chance to compete in the national championship. BC3’s fall golf season concludes with the Western Pennsylvania Collegiate Conference championship.
