Classroom Sessions
Monday - Thursday | 8 AM - 5 PM

Ambulance Ride-Along
Weekends | Flexible Scheduling

This on-the-job training will rotate between Independence Health Care - Butler Memorial Hospital and Butler Co. EMS agencies.

Stipend & Service Commitment
Academy participants will be paid a stipend for meeting benchmarks:
$13/hour | 40 hours a week

Academy participants must commit one year of service to a Butler Co. EMS agency after successful completion of the training.

Grant-funded by the County of Butler and FREE to participants.

The EMS Academy was developed by the Butler County Commissioners, Butler County Community College and countywide EMS services to create a pipeline of EMT's by providing training and support to residents who are interested in the field.


Academy Requirements


  • EMT Training approved by the PA Department of Health
  • Emergency Vehicle Drivers Training (EVDT)
  • Personal Empowerment Training
  • Voucher to cover the cost of one attempt at the NREMT Cognitive Exam

  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Must be a Butler Co. resident for at least one year.
  • Must have a High School Diploma or GED.
  • Must have a valid (current and unrestricted) driver’s license.
